I grew up in Hastings, Minnesota the son of an airline mechanic, but I learned to play the violin from my grandfather, who lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Since age 14 I have carried that marvelous medieval invention of sound technology across borders and genres.
I went to college and studied engineering, got a job, raised a family - but I never quite stopped playing the violin and I'm glad I kept at it. Music has keep me on an even keel through turbulent times. It allowed me to make connections, brought me in contact with interesting communities and it has been a means to affect strangers around me in ways I cannot begin to describe.
Over the years I have done a bit of travel and I have taken my fiddle with me on the road. Now that the kids have moved away and have homes of their own, I feel I have more time to go out and play a lot more fiddle ... and then write about it.
I invite you to join me on this journey.
